The summer came and went too fast as did all of our blueberries. Although we had a bumper crop, it wasn’t anywhere near enough to meet the growing demand. We now have over 4,000 bushes planted, and within the next couple of years, we’ll be able to open up the new field, effectively tripling our production.
The raspberry field was rather disappointing this year and may have to be replanted for next year. We’ll be planting more of the black and gold raspberries in addition to the red raspberries. The blackberry vines are finally taking, and we should have a nice crop for next year.
The apples look outstanding this year, and we should be able to open the orchard as early as next week. The 240 semi-dwarf trees we planted last year should start producing by next year, and we grafted another 300 this spring, which will be planted next spring.
The hardy kiwis are coming! The 250 vines we propagated last year in the greenhouse are now out in the field and started producing this year. This kiwi fruit is the size of large grapes, has no fuzz (and thus requires no peeling), has twice the sugar content of it’s tropical cousin, and is considered a super fruit; packed with antioxidants. We’ll have samples available in the apple orchard during apple picking over the next couple of weeks.
Hope to see you here,
Paul
