It’s been a long winter, and a tougher spring for all of us. Fortunately, most of our vines, trees and bushes fared well. There will be some changes on the farm this summer due to the pandemic: all group tours will be postponed until next year, we will be practicing social distancing in the field. We will not be retaining and reusing the plastic blueberry buckets, and we will be opening and stocking the fruit stand for those who do not wish to pick.
Our u-pick hours will be the same as last year: Friday-Sunday from noon to 6:00, and we will open the stand Thursday-Saturday, from 4:00-6:00. Feel free to call in your orders ahead of time (786-348-8600) and we will do our best to accommodate pick-ups at the stand.
There will be no u-pick strawberries or raspberries this year as we are just replanting those fields. Depending on availability, we will have some at the front stand for sale. All the blueberry fields look terrific, and we’re predicting a July 10th opening for u-pick, and the stand perhaps sooner, depending on availability of strawberries.
The stone fruit looks iffy again this year; a lot of the trees were caught in full bloom during the last frost and consequently did not set fruit. We’ll have a further update on that in July.
The apples look amazing. The 300 semi-dwarf trees are coming into production this year, and our giant heirloom trees are loaded.
The kiwi fruit also looks very promising. We may actually have enough this year to stock the stand! For those of you who haven’t tried them, they’re extremely tasty, freeze well, and are packed with anti-oxidants.
That’s it for now, I hope to see you all here soon.
