It was a long, cold winter and we’re all glad to see spring finally sprung.
We have no strawberries this year, but hope to have a new field planted in time for next year’s June harvest.
The late spring thaw with no late spring frosts allowed some of our stone fruit as well as our hardy kiwi to prosper. We will have lots of beautiful golden plumbs again this year, and should even have some paw paw to sample.
The apricots, peaches and nectarines didn’t fare as well, but they have always been iffy in our microclimate. The cherry trees are still small and won’t produce in earnest for another couple of years.
The blueberry field looks strong again this year with some of the light producers last year producing heavily this year, including the Sweetheart , Duke, and Polaris varieties. We expect to open the field on July 6th with the sweethearts, my favorite.
The raspberries and blackberries look decent, and should ripen starting in mid-July.
As we are one of the only organic u-pick apple farms in the state, we decided to dramatically increase the size of our apple orchard last year. The 240 semi-dwarf trees we planted should produce by next year. The large (climbable) heirloom trees are completely loaded, and we’re looking forward to a heavy harvest there. They should be ready alongside the hardy kiwi, starting in mid-September.
We still have some premium koi for sale, please call ahead for quantity and size availability.
We look forward to seeing you here!
